Are there any members that are not teachers or affiliated with the education field? 99% of our members are educators but we do have a few associate members from other fields who are sponsored by educators already in our network.
Are children allowed to travel? Every membership covers two adults and children under 18. All allowances for children are at the discretion of the host. One child under twelve is covered by the basic room rate of $40.00 night, it is assumed that the child will stay in the same room as his or her parents. Any additional children and those children over the age of twelve will be an additional charge. Charges will vary according to how many rooms are used and how many children are traveling. See a list of our prices.
Are there any minimum standards for accommodations? Your responsibility as a host is to provide a clean room, comfortable place to sleep, bathroom access, and a self-serve breakfast. Upon confirmation of a stay, we will provide you with the name and telephone number of the travelers. We will also ask them to contact you to introduce themselves to you and to determine a convenient time to arrive. Our membership directory is also available to you for additional reference.
What should be served for breakfast? We only ask that you provide a self-serve continental breakfast. Usually some fruit, toast or cereal and a beverage is sufficient.
What are my hosting obligations during the day? Generally, our travelers leave in the morning for sight seeing and do not return until after dinner time. If there are any special requests we will notify the host when booking the trip.
When registering a house for the home stay program, can I expect the traveler to perform household chores? Some of our home stay opportunities do require chores such as watering plants, feeding animals, collecting mail and newspaper. You should list such requirements on your home stay listing.
Is there a booking fee for each night? There is a booking fee of $5.00 for United States and Canadian trips and international trips for every host that you stay with regardless of how many night you stay with them.
How much notice should be given when booking trips? We require at least two weeks notice when booking trips. We cannot work on trips further than eight weeks before the first night of travel. Please keep in mind that summer months and school vacations are very busy and may need extra time to be successfully booked.
