Ed and Margie, Member #9206, Santa Maria, CA
Members Since 2000

Two weeks after joining, Ed and Margie took an extensive EBBN tour from Santa Maria, California to Western Canada staying with our members all along the way. They saved over $750! Below is a bit of what they had to say when they returned from their adventure!

"We were a bit apprehensive about traveling in a way that would be totally new to us. Any doubts or skepticism we may have had dissappeared within the first few minutes spend with our first host couple. It was a fantastic trip with fantastic hosts in fantastic places! What a way to go!"

Day 1
Sunny and warm, great for cruising and sightseeing. All things considered we had a delightful day, except for a few traffic backups on both sides of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. We continued on highway 101 to Arcata, CA and our hosts for the night, Carl and Susan. Great folks, quite interesting.

Day 2
Another gorgeous day, great scenery, and easy driving. We got an early start to Cresent City, CA. First to Eugene for a brief dinner with our son and family. Ed is allergic to cats and they have six, so we stayed with another EBBN host, Dorothy, a most gracious and charming lady. She is well traveled and interesting to converse with.

Day 3
Less driving, more leisure and relaxation. Today we cruised to Olympia, WA. Our plan had been to meet our hosts and go sightseeing. However, Leslee was working and Denny offered to show us around and we jumped at the chance. We had a lovely visit with these terrific hosts and a hearty breakfast before we left for Canada

Day 4
Excitement and anticipation builds. Arrival at the border brought a surprise to Margie. She discovered she left her driver's liscense at home and had to use her Costco card as picture ID. The border patrol laughed but waved us through. Our hosts, Roger and Esa, in West Vancouver were very friendly. We were their first guests from the network. They told us where to visit and what to see as well as how to get there. They also informed us where NOT to go, which was really helpful!

Day 5
Sightseeing, shopping, and photography. We saw Horsehoe Bya, Shannon Falls, Provincial Park, Brittania Museum, and the Capilano Suspenstion Bridge.

Day 6
More shopping. Today we went to Granville Island, a waterfront area with shops, a small eating area, and a marina.

Day 7
House sitting! We reluctanly said goodbye to our wonderful Vancouver hosts and headed to Horseshoe Bay for our trip to Sidney. Our hosts, Bill and Marj, were on vacation and had left a key to their home with her father. They left many pamphlets and maps as guides to what we should see and how to get there.

Day 8
Butterflies, gardens, walking, and fireworks. We were excited because we were going to Buchart Gardens. Everything was in full bloom and we were soaking it up like a sponge. On Saturday nights in August there is a fireworks display. The most spectacular display we ever saw was coordinated to music and dancing fountains.

Day 9
The old and the new and of course, tea. We toured victoria proper and had high tea at the world famous Empress Hotel overlooking the bay.

Day 10
There's cruising and then there's cruising. There was no hurry because the ferry didn't leave until late morning. We ate a leisurely breakfast, straightened the house, left a thank you note, and headed to the ferry. We didn't arrive at Glenn and Jante's home in Florence, OR until 1:30am due to traffic tieups, fog, road construction, etc. Our hosts were great! Glenn met us outside the front door. They even got up early and served us breakfast and great conversation.

Day 11
Up and on the road. We left early and arrived in Eureka, CA and proceeded to our host, Catherine. She got up settled in and we spent much of the evening learning about each other.

Day 12
Homeward bound. Had an early breakfast and headed home...
